Tulsa’s LandPlan Consultants received three awards For Oklahoma park projects

LandPlan Consultants, Inc of Tulsa sweeps all professional Oklahoma ASLA design awards for three recent parks projects in Oklahoma.

GUTHRIE, OK—April 12, 2011-- Oklahoma American Society of Landscape Architects presents three professional awards to LandPlan Consultants, Inc. at the 2011 Annual Awards Banquet in Guthrie, OK on April 16. LandPlan received an Honors Award for Boiling Springs State Park in Woodward, OK, a Merit Award for Skiatook Central Park and a Merit Award for the conceptual plan of Roman Nose State Park in Watonga, OK.

Boiling Springs State Park in western Oklahoma is home to, and prominently features, a natural phenomenon of a boiling spring. It was critical to build improvements without disrupting the natural geological feature of the boiling spring or the sensitive ecological systems within the park. Wildlife is one of the many awe-inspiring features of the park and their preservation was imperative. New native stone walkways, stairways, red cedar gateways and overlooks were added to the site including a 980 square foot Red Cedar timber shelter and a natural spring fed stream that was planted with over 600 native plants.

Skiatook Central Park is the trail head to the Osage Railroad Trail the goal was to design a signature park and playground with unique, flexible spaces for children’s play, special events and gatherings such as the annual Pioneer Days. The park’s layout features a pond with a pedestrian bridge, boardwalk, playground equipment, picnic shelters, decorative lighting, parking, splash pad, restrooms, landscape, and a system of walking paths connecting the Osage Prairie Trail to the park.

Set amidst a beautiful canyon in Northwest Oklahoma, existing recreational activities within Roman Nose State Park include an 18 hole golf course, swimming pools, hiking trails, two lakes, trout fishing, canoeing, paddle boats, camping, playgrounds, picnicking, tennis, volleyball, archery, mountain biking, horse stables and hayrides. LandPlan Consultants developed the Conceptual Plan for Roman Nose State Park to complement the overall attractiveness, safety, and marketability of the park while enhancing the overall recreational opportunities and protecting the historic architecture and natural environment. Conceptual cost estimates were provided by LandPlan Consultants, Inc. to help the Oklahoma State Parks move forward with funding of these projects.
