The Lake Hefner Bicycle and Pedestrian Trail is a 3.7 mile 12’ wide asphalt trail in northwest Oklahoma City. This trail completes the loop between the existing trail at Stars and Stripes Park on the east and the Lake Hefner Dam Road on the west. This is a much needed linkage as the original trail was overflowing with bicyclists, walkers, joggers and roller bladers on evenings and weekends.

This plan also involves planting shade and ornamental trees along the trail length, installing post and cable fence or post and rail fence at various points to prevent access by vehicles or to provide separation from the roadway, and providing several rest stops with benches and bicycle racks along the trail. One rest stop will have a drinking fountain for trail users.

Unique construction techniques were utilized in the narrow trail corridors adjacent to the lake. Gabions are designed to be constructed into the lake at 4 locations along the trail. The gabions will provide adequate level right of way for the trail to be constructed. A 68’ pedestrian bridge is designed to cross a substantial inflow channel to the lake with gabions providing structural protection.
