Skiatook Central Park
Skiatook, Oklahoma

The community of Skiatook, in northeastern Oklahoma, has a small town reputation as a quiet Tulsa suburb. Founded in 1872 and established as a trading post, Skiatook prides itself on its Pioneer Days Festival. The Pioneer Days celebration is kicked off with a 5K run and fitness walk along the Osage Prairie Trail at the north end of the 10.33 acre park site where the trail continues south for 14 miles to Tulsa.

A long celebrated tradition, Pioneer Days hosts carnival rides, live music, food tents, vendors, horse shoe tournaments, a car show, parade, chili challenge, tractor pull, rodeo, and fireworks display. The Skiatook Central Park transforms the existing site along Highway 20 to be a more hospitable home to the annual September Pioneer Days and an inviting community park the rest of the year. Integrating passive and active amenities throughout the park will attract both the younger generations and the older established citizens. Plans for the park, currently under construction, include the addition of active areas with a new playground and splash pad. In addition to landscaping improvements strolling visitors will find new rest rooms, a pond, boardwalk, shelter, entry signage, flagpole courtyard, additional parking and ample space for the carnival tents in open activity areas.
